What is a Healing Crisis?
An explanation of 'what is a healing crisis' from a holistic practitioner's perspective
A healing crisis can occur when an individual moves from a point of chaos to a point of order on their healing journey. It can be physical, emotional, or both.
When does a healing crisis typically occur?
A healing crisis typically occurs when the body is able to muster enough 'energy' to realign itself to an improved state of health or wholeness.
What can bring on a healing crisis?
Many factors can contribute to a healing crisis. Typical circumstances that can trigger a healing crisis include:
- a highly focused nutritional detox
- a deep emotional release
- the application of some sort of energy healing technique such as reiki, spiritual healing or tachyon healing
- an epiphany or new found personal understanding
- deep yogic practice or meditation
What are the symptoms of a healing crisis?
Symptoms of a healing crisis are usually acute and mild. However, in certain cases it can be more prolonged and intense. It all depends on the individual and the treatment program being applied. Symptoms can affect both mind and body and can include:
- upset stomach or digestive issues
- cold or flu like symptoms
- resurfacing of old injuries or wounds that never fully healed
- intense emotions (positive, negative or both)
- general aches and pains
How long can a healing crisis last?
A healing crisis can last from seconds to weeks. It is unique to each individual and often largely depends on the technique employed which led to the healing crisis in the first place.
What can be done if you are experiencing a healing crisis?
If you are in the midst of a healing crisis speak to your practitioner first to ensure it is a healing crisis. If you both agree it is, follow the advice given. A holistic practitioner will usually know how to alleviate the symptoms WITHOUT SUPPRESSING them so you are still able to get the benefits of the end goal.
